  • UV protection: Wearing sunglasses is not a fashion statement, but is actually a topmost impressive way to say that you care for your eye. Wearing a UV protective sun-glass (with UVA and UVB protection) when you go outside, protects your eye from the harmful UV rays of the sun.
  • Eye dryness: This one has recently became a leading cause for eyesight related disorders, majorly because of long viewing hours on televisions, smartphones or other electronic gadgets. To avoid dryness of eyes, blink your eyes at least after every 40 seconds. You should make a practice of applying two drops of an eye lubricant (like Genteal) on a regular basis. It’s weird, but crying occasionally, keeps your eyes healthy.
  • Smoking: Smoking enhances your chances of acquiring macular degeneration, cataract and even optic nerve damage up to 50 times a normal person would generally do. If you currently smoke, then you are obviously well aware of all the nuisances that a 10 minutes fun creates. So, like a well-wisher, we suggest you to start a smoking cessation program so that you can reduce the levels and harmful effects of smoking.
  • Effect of Diabetes: Diabetes is a leading cause of conditions like retinoblastoma (or bleeding eye nerves) and retinopathy which possibly has nocomplete cure until now. Diabetes can cause low vision and even blindness due to damage of nerve cells of the retina, or the light sensitive tissue inside the surface of our eyes. To stay away from diabetes, obesity, heart diseases and all other dangerous and life threatening disorders, you should eat well, exercise regularly, stay away from harmful environmental pollutants, restrict yourself with an un-adulterated diet and most importantly stay happy and have a disciplined life.

The 20-20-20 rule

Not all of us are aware of this rule. But, ophthalmologists and other eye specialist suggest that, your eyes need ample rest. To help your eyes waive off the strain, look 20 feet away, for 20 seconds after every 20 minutes. This golden rule relaxes your strained eye tissues and is especially mandatory for those who work with the computer for long hours and are prone to dry eyes.

Food for eyes

Just like your hair or skin, your eyes too near nourishment. Various vitamins, antioxidants and other nutrients are not only beneficial for those who have been experiencing degenerative eye sight, but also it helps to maintain consistency among-st healthy individuals for a long time.

Beneficial foods for your eyes are rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants, and these are majorly found in: Carrot, Green Leafy vegetables like spinach and kale, Cold water fishes like tuna, salmon and other oily fishes, eggs,  beans, nuts, blueberries, blackberries, cherries, strawberries, avocados, citrus fruits like oranges and lime,  broccoli and herbal tea, among st others.

Eating the right quantity of these nutrients can keep you away from severe conditions of glaucoma, macular degeneration and eye sight related disorders.

Besides all these, you should also visit an ophthalmologist at least once a year for a regular eye check-up.
